Estranged Stranger

An estranged tribe
She said.
Or something of the sort.
Because we had been mixed
With different blood
And had learnt
Different tongues.

I certainly feel estranged,
In this new sea
Of colour
Where before
I had known
Only one.
I had known
Only one language,
But now
My ears are filled
With the flapping
Of tongues
Unfamiliar to me.
Unfamiliar to my mother.
I see eyes –
More of them –
That are different
From my own.
Voices,
A bit higher
Than what I am accustomed to.
People
I know nothing of,
Who know nothing
Of me.

And estranged tribe
She said.
Well I certainly feel estranged.
